Why is I-45 between Dallas and Houston so boring?
Once you pass Huntsville, it is a snoozefest all the way to Dallas. Not a single medium sized city (like Waco) or interesting small town (like Salado). I don't like the Dallas to San Antonio either, but at least it has something to break up the monotomy.
A-Best: To keep the Dallasites in Dallas and the Houstonians in Houston. LOL I agree very boring but the trips from any of Texas major cities to the next city is boring.
Next time try stopping in Fairfield at a restaurant called Sam's. It is Delicious. It is almost the mid point so get out of that car and stretch, yawn and get your belly full.
A: I would submit that entire US Interstate system is boring. Pitty it was developed to be efficient and not scenic like the autobahn in Germany.
A: Damn, you think thats a boring stretch of highway, try I-10 from San Antonio to El Paso, then come back and complain about I-45
A: It's only like a 3 hour drive, it's not that boring.
A: ive been from houston to dallas and vice versa a MILLION times. yes. its very very very very boring. usually i listen to the harry potter books on cassete/cd to pass the time quickly. i don't really know why its so boring tho... :[
A: You are right it's boring, just like Freer to Laredo and Houston to New Orleans.
A: Dear Mom,
why not plug in some realy good music and sing all the way? That's what I do when I have a long, boring drive. You could plug in a recorded book, maybe something really scary or funny. Use your imagination. You're only as bored as you allow yourself to be.
Signed,
Your Loving Daughter.
A: It's just plain UGLY FLAT & NOTHING to see. Is there still that god awful constrcutions. Interstates are notorious for being messed b/c the state is too lazy & stupid to fix them & the cops are too busy writing tickets. I would MUCH rather get on a plane for $60 & be there in 45 minutes lol.
A: I agree, once you say hi to big Sam it's quite boring thereafter. I try to get a little sleep while I'm driving and Dallas seems to arrive much quicker.
A: It isn't that bad at all. You get nice rolling hills north of Houston. The "empty" part is closer to Dallas, where it is flat and has few trees. Still, a three hour drive at 80+mph isn't that bad. I make it several times a year. Since half the time I go closer to Fort Worth, I also mix things up by taking Highway 6 to Waco and getting on I-35.
I don't find Corsicana all that boring, but I do wish they'd finish the construction!
Would you prefer 240 miles of billboards, tacky roadside attractions, and neon?
I always found something to do, even when I drove alone. I had CDs, radio stations, and did the books-on-tape thing a few times. Now I make the trips with my wife and we chat.
A: The drive down I-45 just seems more boring than driving down I-35 because there's so much less traffic. I saw someone already suggested a stop in Fairfield to eat at Sam's, try stopping in Corsicana for a snack at the Collin Street Bakery, they have awesome cookies.
I really like the drive from Dallas to Houston, it's only 4 hours and much of it is through those lovely East Texas pine trees. I've driven it about every other month for the last 20 years and usually alone. I find it a great time to listen to books and music or just enjoy finally having some alone time.
A: At least if is freeway all the way. 59 between Houston and Texarkana is a killer. We lived in WI for a while and dreded the portion of drive between H and T. ARG. One lane, huge potholes, tons of 18 wheelers.
